Notebook on Oklahoma State’s Season-Opening Win Over the Other OSU
A look back on a great night in Corvallis.
I dropped my 10 thoughts here on Friday evening Saturday morning, but it’s time to clean out the notebook before we move on to talking about which OSU player is going to win the 2020 Heisman everything we learned and eventually on to McNeese State.
Let’s go.
• A couple of uniform notes off the top: 1. Mega-elite helmet. 2. Sanders’ clear visor is sick. 3. Chuba with those patches running down his arms is perfect. Maybe they’re aerodynamic.
• A thing I wrote: Why does Matt Ammendola have bigger arms than half of OSU’s linebackers?
• A real question — whose stadium is nicer and better between Pac-12 Conference participant Oregon State and Union High School?
• This from Seth was the tweet of the night just after OSU’s coaches got stuck in an elevator. Also a person on our game thread may or may not have said that they should put Knowles back in the elevator at one point in the second half.

• Every single time Chuba takes the kick I think he’s gone. Every time. He could receive it on his back waving both arms and legs for a fair catch, and I’d be like, “well if he gets a sliver, it’s ovah.”
• Is this a safe place to admit that I am so sick of talking about QBs from last year, this year and every year and just want to enjoy how good Sanders is and is going to be? Like, I don’t want to do the Corn-Dru-Sanders tango anymore. I don’t care. It’s over. OSU has an elite QB for the next four years.
• Oregon State scored first in one game last year. Also! Their wins include Portland State, Southern Utah and Colorado in the last two years. I thought briefly early on in the game that they might just own Israel Antwine.
• The Pokes are now 36-2 since 2005 when not committing a turnover.
• Here’s the list of players who have rushed for 200 yards in a season opener. Bring me all the Chuba hyperbole. I want to inhale it all.
• I see why they bumped Malcolm to LB. Tre Sterling has some real juice.
• Sean Gleeson must feel like he won the lottery. His salary tripled (or whatever) to coach a QB who’s twice as good as any he’s ever coached. AT&T paid him to upgrade from a flip phone to an iPhone 12.
• I also thought Jordan McCray was great. Good transfer, good veteran to have. Dunn said he wanted a safety valve for whoever ended up being the QB. Looks like he has a few of them at that spot.
• Sanders and Chuba both averaged over 8 yards a carry. I don’t know which one I’m more giddy about, but the fact that they went 200-100 is incredible. Just the third QB to put up 100 rushing yards in a game for OSU in the last decade.
100-yard rushing games from an #okstate QB in the last decade.

• OSU is 40-15 in its last 55 games. Wowza.
• It’s early, I know, but Trace Ford might be the goat.
• Fair to say that Amen might end up being OSU’s most steady, consistent defender? I don’t know that he’s an elite athlete or talent, but he — to quote a certain coach — seems to do everything right.
