OSU Recruiting: QB Grant Gunnell Headlines 2019 Wish List on Offense

Published

on

With the 2018 recruiting class all but in the books, the coaching staff can now give full focus to 2019 and beyond. And with four-star tight end Grayson Boomer in the fold, the Pokes have a cornerstone on which to build.

So who is the OSU staff targeting to put alongside Boomer on offense? Let’s take a look at eight names to know as crootin’ season gears up.

Grant Gunnell | QB | 6-6, 212 pounds

A Texas A&M commit, Grant Gunnell is wavering on his commitment and OSU coach Mike Yurcich is among those who have been in hot pursuit lately.

“I really like coach Yurcich,” Gunnell said recently of OSU’s offensive coordinator. “When I committed, he said he’ll always be there for me if things change. I’ve talked with him every now and again and it’s a school I really like.”

Gunnell is a four-star, 6-foot-6 gunslinger who is tight with Grayson Boomer. That connection may play a factor in where he ultimately lands.

Taulia Tagovailoa | QB | 5-11, 202 pounds

The younger brother of Alabama savior Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia is a lesser-heralded talent who has already garnered an offer from the Pokes. At 5-11 and 202 pounds, he’s got the ability to escape the pocket and make throws on the run, but is overall less polished as compared to Tua.

He’s already got offers from Bama — the favorite — along with Florida, Tennessee, Syracuse and others.

Deion Hankins | RB | 5-11, 207 pounds

Straight out of El Paso, Texas, Deion Hankins is a four-star prospect who has been unearthed by OSU, Texas Tech and mostly schools within the region. But that likely won’t be the case for long.

Ranked as the No. 305 overall player in the 2019 class, Hankins is bound to explode with offers soon. He’s one of six RB targets who have been offered by OSU in 2019, but the most realistic option of the bunch currently.

Garrett Wilson | WR | 6-0, 178 pounds

With 22 offers and counting, four-star Lake Travis wideout Garrett Wilson’s one of the hottest names in the streets. Ranked as a top-100 national recruit, he’s got Ohio State, Arkansas, Texas, Georgia, Michigan and plenty of others already banging down his door.

He’ll have his pick of where he goes, but OSU is squarely in the mix.

Demariyon Houston | WR | 6-0, 165 pounds

Millwood prospect Demariyon Houston is OKC’s next big thing. With eight offers and counting, he’s a burner who can torch you on the outside and has the jets to leave you in the dust. One of the more intriguing Oklahoma area talents I’ve seen in some time.

Branson Bragg | Center | 6-4, 295 pounds

OSU was early in the clubhouse for Crandall, Texas center Branson Bragg. He’s since taken off with nearly 20 offers, the likes of which include OU, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Ole Miss and many others.

As of now Texas is the favorite in the 247Sports crystal ball, but I wouldn’t bet against Josh Henson. And given the fact that the center position isn’t totally solidified, Henson’s got a nice recruiting pitch he can sell to the four-star talent ranked as the No. 2 center in 2019.

Ira Henry | Tackle | 6-5, 320 pounds

Ira Henry is a St. Louis native with 10 offers, the most recent coming from the Cowboys back in November. OSU is battling with Florida, Louisville, Arkansas and others for the rights to land the massive tackle.

EJ Ndoma-Ogar | Guard | 6-3, 305 pounds

Texas powerhouse Allen High School has a slew of top-end prospects, and offensive guard EJ Ndoma-Ogar might be the best of the litter. He’s a true wish-lister, though, as he’s got 33 offers and counting with Texas, OU, USC and others already in on the blue-chipper ranked as the No. 161 player in 2019.
