The Cowboys suffered a gut-punch loss on the field Friday night (or Saturday morning), and they also suffered a loss on the recruiting trail Saturday.

Jordan Covington, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive lineman, announced Saturday that he is reopening his recruitment. Covington is the No. 1,331 player in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

Out of McKinney High School (Texas), Covington has 17 tackles in his senior season, including three tackles for loss and a sack. He also has five quarterback hurries on the year.

OSU offered Covington in May, and he committed in June over offers from TCU, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan State, Houston and others.

With Covington’s decommitment, the Cowboys have 16 pledges in their 2025 class. That class ranks 57th nationally and 11th in the Big 12, per 247Sports. OSU still has a pair of defensive linemen committed in the class in four-star prospect Michael Riles (Port Arthur, Texas) and three-star prospect Alexander McPherson (Bradenton, Florida).
