Unexplainable

Bill Haisten looks at the perplexing decision not to have Eddie Sutton in the Hall of Fame – especially given the context of other’s previously inducted.

Sixty-five years ago, there was a one-season death penalty of sorts for Kentucky, but Rupp is a celebrated figure in the Hall of Fame. Rupp surely wasn’t aware that his players were associating with gamblers, just like the NCAA determined that Sutton apparently wasn’t aware that an assistant was a dirty recruiter.

More recently, because of violations, the 1996 UMass and 2008 Memphis teams aren’t formally recognized by the NCAA as having made Final Four appearances. Both squads were coached by John Calipari, who now is at Kentucky — and in the Hall of Fame.

Rick Pitino also is in the Hall of Fame. He was inducted in September 2013 — six months after the Cardinals captured the national title, and during a period when, it was later determined by the NCAA, a Louisville assistant provided prostitutes and strippers to players and recruits. [TulsaWorld]

Only of the eight coaches with 800 wins not in. Zero transparency with who votes – the opposite of Heisman voting. Haisten builds on an already compelling case for why the five-time finalist from small-town Kansas should have been in long ago.

Famous Duos Throughout Time

When you think of pairs of road warriors in Oklahoma State basketball history, where are Mitchell Solomon and Jeffrey Carroll? Because they need to be higher – in one respect – than others you might think of.

Carroll and Solomon have now won a game in each Big 12 arena. They became the first Cowboys to win in every conference venue since OSU’s 1954 senior class, Bob Mattick, Tom Fuller and Dale Roark, did so in the Missouri Valley Conference for Oklahoma A&M.

Solomon had his second career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. His second straight double-digit rebound performance moved him into OSU’s all-time top 20 in rebounding. Carroll delivered a dagger 3-pointer among his game-high 21 points, adding eight rebounds and career-high seven assists. [NewsOK]

With road warrior Travis Ford for two of those years! It’s truly an impressive feat given the strength of the league.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Scott Sutton is happy to be in Stillwater again….Cowgirls took down the Lady Frogs on Senior Night Monday….The Ringer has Mason Rudolph to the Cardinals at No. 15….Touching gesture from the weekend – Iowa player intentionally misses free throw to honor fallen Hawkeye….NBA’s G-League seems like a good solution for college basketball corruption

It hasn’t been easy.

Summary of the ten-minute vid: NCAA not that impressive – “we’re trying hard” but couldn’t build any kind of substantive case showing rampant cheating.

Also – see NCAA’s primary revenue source.

Thought it was interesting that PFF has Rudolph ahead of Josh Allen – based on production not random good throws.

An impressive number for Coach Littell.

The Cowboy win streak continued yesterday.
