Rudolph in Red

In ProFootballFocus’ latest mock, Mason Rudolph is headed southwest.

15. ARIZONA CARDINALS (8-8)
QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State
There will be plenty of turnover in Arizona with QB Carson Palmer and head coach Bruce Arians both retiring, and they’ll certainly be in the quarterback market. Rudolph has mixed opinions around the league, but he’s extremely accurate outside the numbers and he finished with the nation’s No. 2 overall grade last season at 91.9 overall. [ProFootballFocus]

Ease him with some Larry Fitz-lobs and a strong running game with David Johnson? Yes, please.

Easily the best part of that mock was who they had No. 1 to the Browns: Baker Mayfield.

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Heart of the Matter

Speaking of No. 2, this quote from Miami’s athletic director gets to the heart of the matter concerning the discussion of possible new redshirt rules.

“I don’t think it’s right for a young man to lose a redshirt over what may be a need for a team, in a competitive situation, to have to find a player to play,” said Miami athletic director Blake James, chair of the DI Council.

“Whether it’s a bowl game or a game late in the season, personally, I struggle with why we would take away the redshirt.” [ESPN]

Flashback to 2014 when Garman was seeing stars and Mason Rudolph – with two regular season games to go – was nudged in because (I believe) a young Taylor Cornelius wouldn’t have been what gave the “best chance to win”.

James’ point is that the regulation would protect the players’ best interest while still helping the greater good. This other point was the clincher in my mind:

So whom would it affect? Coaches and legislators believe the passage of this proposal would enhance player safety. An established player may feel less pressure to perform while injured if a healthy backup — otherwise in the midst of a redshirt season — was available. [ESPN]

OSU and NCAA Notes

How every Big 12 team plans to use the 10th assistant….How many top recruits didn’t sign before the early signing day plus other observations….Ways a new (more player-oriented) transfer rule would impact the sport….John Smith is disappointed at 6-1

This is the kind of thinking Cowboy Football needs.

I’m all for Bob Stitt.

Boynton gets it.

Bedlam is so stinkin’ fun.

Props to the Cowgirls on the W over No. 17 West Virginia.
