OSU Bullets

• You’ve probably heard that Viktor Hovland is killing it on the PGA Tour – here’s why:

Here’s what you need to know going in: That line your dad uses about driving for show and putting for dough? Yeah, it’s not true. It’s not reality. On the PGA Tour — and specifically in PGA Tour events (i.e. non-majors) — you drive for dough and hit filthy irons for more dough. Putting is sort of incidental.

And almost nobody is driving it or hitting it better than Hova. Since the Tour restarted, Hovland is second in strokes gained ball-striking.  [PFB]

• This article had lots of solid commentary on how OSU (and the Big 12 generally) is trying to fill it’s non-conference opening

• National champion and LSU head coach Ed Orgeron made some comments that sounded an awful lot like something Mike Gundy said earlier this year.

“I don’t think we can take this away from these players, take this away from our state and our country,” he said, per Steve Gardner of USA Today. “We need football. Football is the lifeblood of our country in my opinion. It gets everything going, it gets the economy going, the economy of Baton Rouge, the economy of the state of Louisiana.” [Bleacher Report]

Timing is everything – Coach O made his remarks much further down the road in the calendar. Orgeron very well may be right but I think an offshoot of his remark is that college football is such a normalizing force, it’s really a common touchpoint and unifying thread in our country. And in a particularly contentious election year, we’ll really need it.

• Yor Anei has landed in the state of Texas – and not in the Big 12 fortunately

• Another reminder of how incredible Ferron Flavors will be at spacing the floor for Cade

• The hypothetical of the Big 12/SEC coordinating for non-conference play just seems like it would make too much sense
