Hiring Spree
A pair of OSU coaches were named on a list of college football’s best back-to-back hirings.
(Les) Miles pops up again. He got things started for Oklahoma State in the early 2000s, going 28-21 over four seasons before leaving for LSU. His replacement has taken it to another level: Gundy is 94-44 with the Cowboys, with the most wins, best winning percentage and most bowl victories of any coach in the program’s modern era. The Pokes check in at number seven with the touted duo of Les and Gundy. God bless the third coach in line following those guys.
Different Acts
A little off the path here but Oklahoma State’s most heralded benefactor had some insightful thoughts.
I’ve long thought in terms of resurgence rather than retirement. One of my longtime associates, Bobby Stillwell, likes to say that “Boone has been in the prime of his life three times.” I first met Bobby in 1963, so he has seen a lot of water flow under the bridge. [Forbes]
It goes without saying that T. Boone Pickens is the author, but the concept of multiple primes is intriguing – especially if applied to college football.
How many primes would you say, Mike Gundy has had? Zach Robinson and Weeden from 2009-2011 were a peak. The wrecking defense of 2013 could be another. Circa Mason Rudolph (2015-2017) has to be considered in there as well. The concept relatively applies but hey, it’s June.
Jawun-to-OKC Possibilities
It’d be fun for Oklahoma State fans living in or near Oklahoma to have Jawun playing nearby 41 nights a year. What’s the possibility it comes true?
Evans is a really good prospect. Offensively he gives you everything you would want out of a point guard — Great in the pick and roll, can create his own shot, pushes the ball in transition, and can hit threes. If the Thunder have some deep, dark, sick feeling that Westbrook won’t accept the supermax extension, Evans would be good insurance.
If they believe Russ will stick around, look for the Thunder to pick another player that can soak up more than 13 minutes per game. [Daily Thunder]
So Jawun going to OKC would be a good news/bad news situation for dual-OKC/OSU fans. Good to see a player they enjoy close by, bad because there’s a whiff of another summer exodus.

Mike Gundy is the highest paid football coach in Oklahoma. Kudos to OU for not overpaying a rookie.
Lincoln Riley will make $3.1 million as the head coach.

TCU is moving right along.
Loved how Jawun wanted the ball in his hands, to create or score when playing the big dogs.
Nobody rises to the occasion like @j3vans1_. #okstate
