From the Get-Go

It seems a bit inconsequential and unnecessary when playing the league’s cellar dweller but getting out ahead early at home would be a nice change.

“For whatever reason, I can’t figure out what I’m doing or not doing that keeps us from showing up in the first half of our home games,” Gundy said. “We all need to look at ourselves and figure out what’s going on.”

The start Saturday wouldn’t project to be a problem for the Cowboys, who opened as a 40-point favorite over Kansas. It will be Senior Day, too, with a positive sendoff expected from fans getting one final chance to offer their appreciation to stars such as quarterback Mason Rudolph and wide receiver James Washington. It felt like the Pokes clearly had the Wildcats outgunned last week, we’ll see if a team that everyone is blowing out (42.7 points per game, 128th out of 130 in FBS) leads to a more logical outcome.

A Cowboy’s Cowboy

Four-year starter Brad Lundblade will make his last start in Stillwater tomorrow and his story is one you can’t help but pull for. Think Rudy more than Rudolph.

“We had missed on not only talent, but on character on linemen we recruited,” Gundy said. “We washed out, like, six guys, and Brad ends up starting.”

Going into his sophomore year, Lundblade was the top returning center the Cowboys had.

“We tried to get him beat out every spring,” Gundy said. “We’d look at it and say, ‘OK, somebody’s gotta beat Lundblade out.’ And it never happened.”

Lundblade never let himself get too comfortable in the job, either.

“I knew even if I did play, they were probably gonna recruit guys who were bigger and stronger than me,” he said. “Every single year, they’ve tried to, and fortunately, I’ve been able to play with that chip on my shoulder and win that battle every single year.” [NewsOK]

Where the heck that unit would be without him, no one knows. But the TCU and Texas games would have looked different with him. A spectacular guy and football player.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Solid, brief OSU/Kansas preview….Markel Brown put up some points in this international game for the US….Ranking the Big 12’s games this week (and ESPN’s picks)….Nebraska is looking for Scott Frost to be the second coming….Leach on wedding advice again (it’s too good)

Man the years have flown by with these guys.

Bless his heart. When you think you’re having a bad day:

Can you imagine experiencing this?

Also, when Big 12 teams play anyone else:

A day in the life.

I could do without facing Gary Patterson defenses through 2024.

Savage.
