FINAL: Oklahoma State 27, UT-Martin 7

Oklahoma State 27, UT-Martin 7 | 4th Quarter 4:36

After a dropped pass and then stepping on the line in the redzone, Sesi Vailahi finally finds the end zone.

On the Skyhawks’ second-longest drive of the game, Christian Fitzpatrick grabs an interception for the first turnover of the game.

They finally let Flores air out, and it resulted in another big play from Terrill Davis. This time a 41-yard shot to put the Pokes in scoring territory. Alas, they once again settle for a kick.

HALFTIME: Oklahoma State 17, UT-Martin 7

The Cowboy scored touchdowns on two of the three Hauss Hejny drives. Since he went to the locker room, they have mustered just three points in the last four possessions. Meanwhile, the defense allowed one TD, albeit on a 39-yard trick play.

With Hejny out, the Pokes need to figure out how to get Zane Flores going but the lack of the run threat that Hejny boasts seems to be making an early difference.

OSU stalls in the red zone after a pass flicks off the hands of Sesi Vailahi, but Logan Ward gets on the board with a 43-yard FG.

The Cowboys are able to move the chains finally. Flores starts 7-of-8 and the Pokes are in enemy territory.

Well, that’s not great news.

That is three-straight three-and-outs for the Pokes. This game kinda fell off a cliff.

Also, not great. FWIW, the Skyhawks were really good (against the run against FCS teams) last year.

It was another three-and-out for OSU. The Cowboys aren’t quite set to make a run to Arlington, regardless of what it looked like after the second drive.

And now we get to see Zane Flores. Not unexpected to see a change at some point but was just one scoreless drive before the QB swap.

Another horse-collar penalty for OSU, this time Jaleel Johnson. That’s two costly fouls in the first quarter.

After giving up that TD, the Cowboys’ offense drops its first three-and-out. The energy meter is seeping a bit.

The Skyhawks employ some trickery, scoring on a 39-yard double-pass play.

And that’s two TDs in two tries for Hauss. One by air, one by ground.

Then he finds Shamar Rigby for 41 yards.

And Hauss Hejny picks up 14 yards on the ground on the first play of the second drive.

But then Kennith Harris gets a hit on Bauer to force an incompletion and force a punt. Pokes get the ball back at their own 7 with 7:33 to go in the first.

OSU nearly had a stop on third and 6 but Jase Bauer gets an extra few inches to pick up the first down.

Bryan McCoy picked up a horse-collar penalty on the first defensive play of the game.

Oklahoma State 7, UT-Martin 0 | 1st Quarter 11:20

With just over three minutes off the clock, the Cowboys find the end zone. Hauss Hejny went 4-for-5 for 45 yards and a rushing score. OSU only had two opening-drive TDs all of last season.

And the first big play comes from Hejny’s arm to newcomer Terrill Davis for 34 yards. Hauss’ first collegiate completion was a good-looker.

It’s Hauss Hejny and Kalib Hicks in the backfield on the first snap.
