Top 10 Comments of the Week: PFB Combine, Mike Boynton Praise, and Most Upvoted Comment Ever?

Published

on

The comments this week were insane. There was an article with 68(!) comments and the most upvoted comment I’ve ever seen. I scrolled through hundreds of your thoughts and opinions laughing out loud, shaking my head, nodding my head, and compiling the Top 10 for the week.

A little tweak on the guidelines from last week, moving forward: I’ve copy and pasted each comment. I solemnly swear there is no tampering with the evidence.

  • The readers’ comments will be in italics, and my commentary will be in plain text.
  • These are the most upvoted comments of the week. You determine which comments make this list, so if you enjoy a comment give it some love and maybe it will show up here!

With that said, let’s get to it!

1. The Most Upvoted Comment … ever? (34 upvotes!)

MajorPayneCounty: Anyone else have a panic attack when Brandon Averette is handling the ball? Maybe that’s just me..

I was too happy to see this comment get some crazy attention because it’s something I relate to on a spiritual level. I love BA and what he brings to the table, he’s arguably one of our best defenders, but on the offensive side of the ball he stresses me out. This comment came from the OU Instacap.

2. We Love Beating OU (15 upvotes)

jt: Oh the feeling of putting a stake through the heart of OU’s tournament chances. If they miss the Tournament because of us…

??? This comment can also be found on the Instacap.

3. Can Oregon Land Chuba Hubbard? (13 Upvotes)

PonchoPete: Chuba Hubbard is still 100% lock to commit to Oregon on 24/7sports.

The GIF reply by Adam M. gave me a good chuckle too. I love GIFs. This came from Boone’s Spring Preview of the RBs.

4. PFB Combine: What the World Needs (12 upvotes)

Winning Comment: PFB should host an annual “Friends of the Blog” Combine. It can’t cost that much to find an open field, a few footballs, and some props to make that happen. Great chance to meet up with our fellow comment-jerks and show them up by beating their 6.2 40-time. Also, there could be drinking.

Try to tell me this wouldn’t be the greatest thing PFB has ever done. I would pay good money to be apart of this! Maybe we can get COOP in on it too. (Laughing emoji here). Found on March 5th Daily Bullets.

5. Rich Sarcasm (12 Upvotes)

Zombie Willham: I’m worried how Boynton will do against big name coaches like Kruger, Huggins, and Self.

I’m here for this kind of sarcasm. Found on social media reaction to victory over OU.

 6. Trae Young Push Off? (11 upvotes)

Matt Haffner: I feel bad for Trae Young because he pushed off his defender about 2000 times and never got called for it and it still wasn’t enough.

I was so angry every time Young pushed off on Shine. It happened more than a handful of times. Matt’s right: too bad it wasn’t enough. (sunglasses emoji here) The OU Instacap was lit.

7. Deep Dive Into RPI (11 upvotes)

HunterOU RPI breakdown

vs RPI 1-50: 6-7, 3-5 away from home
vs RPI 51-100: 4-4, 1-4 away from home
vs RPI 101-150: 2-1, 0-1 away from home
vs RPI 150+: 6-0

OSU RPI breakdown

vs RPI 1-50: 7-9, 3-6 away from home
vs RPI 51-100: 1-4, 0-2 away from home
vs RPI 101-150: 2-0, 1-0 away from home
vs RPI 150+: 8-0

How is one team in and one team not even mentioned on bubble? Also interesting that OU has “much stronger” non conference, but OSU has played (and won) more games vs RPI top 50..

Non conference SOS is BS because once you get past 150+ RPI it shouldn’t matter, but it’s measured as if RPI #211 (North Texas) is much better than RPI #315 (Pepperdine).

This was posted in the 5 Thoughts after we swept KU and before OSU handed OU their 8th loss in 10 games, but I hope the RPI dies a painful death. It’s time for a change.

8. Boynton Deserves an Extension (10 upvotes)

Ryan: I don’t care that Travis Ford getting an extension after one year was a bad idea. You don’t do the job that Mike Boynton has done this year without being an incredibly talented coach, and we should reward him for that. Obviously, don’t give him a 10 year deal, but the guy deserves something after this year. If he can recruit at all (and I really think he can, remember he had a top 100 guy committed before the FBI stuff) he’ll become without a doubt one of the best coaches in the Big 12.

Boynton is deserving of Big 12 Coach of the Year. Hope OSU can lock him down after this season. Doesn’t have to be for 10 years as Ryan said, but OSU cannot afford to have another Underwood situation ever again.

Also, also, also found on the OU Instacap.

9. Underwood Departure a Blessing? (10 upvotes)

Guest: Underwood leaving was a blessing in disguise. Boynton is the type of coach I would want my son playing for. Good job Mike. You can tell the players love and respect him.

I have an incredible amount of respect for Mike Boynton. Very humble and gracious man. Thankful he’s our ball coach. Comment predictably found on the OU Instacap.

10. Big 12 Secondaries > Pac 12 Secondaries (10 upvotes)

AustinCowboy: It’s funny how they talk about Big XII secondaries being “statues” but don’t say anything about the talent of the Pac-12 when discussing Rosen or Darnold.

Yep. Pac 12 DBs are oftentimes trash. It’s annoying it never gets brought up. Guess it doesn’t fit the narrative commentators/analysts are pushing. Comment came from Mason Rudolph’s comments on Non-Big 12 Defenses.
