Path to Thursday

Mark Cooper of the TulsaWorld talks through what has to happen for the Pokes to avoid the treacherous road of Wednesday through Saturday games in Kansas City for the Big 12 tournament.

There’s only one sequence of games involving OSU and the three teams a game ahead of them that would end with the Cowboys in sixth place.

Here’s what needs to happen:

• This almost goes without saying: Oklahoma State must win its final two games.

• Texas must lose its final two games — Monday night’s visit to Kansas and a home game against West Virginia. That puts the Longhorns at 7-11.

• Oklahoma must beat Baylor, then lose to Iowa State to finish 8-10.

• Baylor must lose out against OU and Kansas State to finish 7-11.

With this scenario, OSU finishes ahead of Baylor and Texas by a full game, meaning the Bears finish eighth and the Longhorns ninth. [TulsaWorld]

I wouldn’t take the odds but crazier things have happened.

The Good and the Bad

Best summarized – here’s what NFL teams have to consider when drafting Mason Rudolph.

He has the ideal size: 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds. He has the impressive production, throwing for 92 touchdowns and only 26 interceptions in 42 career starts and an NCAA-leading 4,904 yards with 37 TDs (and nine interceptions) as a senior at Oklahoma State.

Tough. Sturdy. Pretty much the prototypical package of what NFL teams want in a franchise pocket passer.

That is, with one glaring exception. The history. The fact Rudolph ran a spread offense while leading a state-championship team at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, S.C. The fact he operated the same scheme, which virtually eliminates huddling and emphasizes quick throws that don’t require reading of coverages, at OSU. [Buffalo News]

Plenty of eye candy – but relevant tape is hard to come by. By relevant tape – tape of Rudolph playing in a similar setup to what that NFL team will want him to do.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Bill Haisten takes a shot at cleaning up college basketball….Athlon ranks Big 12 football’s rosters….Who will be the first non-Nike team to make the college football playoff?….It’s foolish to assume college football isn’t as crooked as basketball

This seems like a good goal for tonight – would be a first since 2010.

Where we’re at in society/Big 12.

…while we’re here, this was an incredible pic.

Classy move by Rickie over the weekend.

Carroll made the top-ten last weekend.
