Where There’s a Will…

Tulsa World’s Mark Cooper found an accurate word to describe this 2017-2018 Cowboy Basketball team.

Word of the day: Resolve

If there’s one thing this team will be remembered for, it will be for pulling out wins when it is least expected.

Oklahoma State has not won consecutive games since Dec. 22, yet the Cowboys could finish 8-10 in the Big 12 with a victory Saturday against Kansas.

The reason: Responses like Tuesday, when OSU set aside a crushing one-point loss at Texas and controlled an 80-71 win over the Cyclones for the entire game. [TulsaWorld]

That perseverance will be severely tested by a prideful Jayhawk team – and a fan base that travels in hoards.

Not for the Faint of Heart

Look away if you’re still not ready to discuss Ames in November 2011 – but it had a perhaps bigger impact on the Big 12 than Oklahoma State.

First, the credibility of the league rises. Oklahoma State winning a national championship would have elevated it to a national-caliber program. Auburn, USC and Clemson cemented themselves as powerhouses with championships in the BCS era. There’s no reason Oklahoma State couldn’t have done the same.

The Cowboys would be the third Big 12 championship-winning team in the BCS era. Only the SEC had more. With that level of success, the narrative surrounding the entire Big 12 might have changed. Although realignment already started moving by 2011, perhaps the Big 12 would have been in a better spot to nab one of its top choices.

If Baylor beats nationally relevant Oklahoma State in 2014 instead of a 7-6 team, then it’s in the College Football Playoff. TCU might have still had a chance, too. The fact that the name-brand teams struggled in 2014 meant that the margin for error was slim.

The Big 12 is still in a good spot without a third national championship. But with one? There’d be far fewer questions about the long-term health of the league. [OSU Diehards]

That’s a great point and a fair question – would OSU of fulfilled the old Nebraska spot? The third nationally relevant program that garners respect? Let’s move on.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Is OSU the best team that RPI is clearly not impressed by?

Gosh it’s fun to have a horse in the backfield.

Serious hardware in that pic.
