Three Four Thoughts

• There will be something strangely satisfying (or just outright delightful) watching Mike Yurcich’s offense carve up OU’s defense at the Cotton Bowl today – he’s doing the same stuff he did in Stillwater too.

But the most noticeable link from Yurcich in Stillwater and Yurcich in Austin is tempo. His Cowboys played fast. These Longhorns are playing fast

“They use tempo very well, and obviously Coach Herman is a tremendous offensive coach as well, so I think you see a real good marriage between the two approaches,” OU defensive coordinator Alex Grinch said. “But just put a lot of stress on you defensively, the ability off the run game to have run-pass options, which makes it very, very difficult.

[NewsOK]

• If you’re not watching the ESPN doc on Cowboy Football, you need to. It was a bit… manufactured at first with the off-season but it’s been solid gold during the season. PFB recapped the ninth episode here.

• I can’t imagine how relieved Mike Holder feels after not throwing the bank at Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall after the recent allegations against (Marshall).

Mike Boynton doesn’t have the hay in the barn just yet but getting the likes of Cade Cunningham to Stillwater, winning in Lawrence, and his Cowboy work ethic/personality sure feel like he’s going to work out.

• It was a blast to see Tyron Johnson have his moment in the sun last week with a 53-yard touchdown catch. More good news yesterday as he gained a spot on the active roster – check out how much he floated around last year:

Johnson made his NFL debut last week for the Bolts and hauled in a 53-yard touchdown on the first catch of his career. He finished spent the 2019 season on practice squads for Buffalo, Houston and Carolina before finishing the year on the Chargers’ practice squad.

Two Quotes

• Cool thing here – some of the initiatives in place to further the conversation between the athletes and the administration appear to be off to a great start. Landon Wolf is one of the athlete reps on the committee.

• A lot of times we make these guys bigger than life – it’s fun to hear about guys just enjoying the moment like young Illingworth here:

One Question

• Is it really that bad if Baylor doesn’t end up being able to play this week?

My take: No. Let Spencer Sanders get healthy(er). Let Big 12 teams beat up on each other and accrue losses while the Pokes sit on their top spot.
