Happy Groundhog Day.
Hard Times in Tornado Alley
TCU’s Gary Patterson had plenty of things to say about the Big 12 that you assume Jim Knowles didn’t hear before signing on before the move.
“The worst job maybe in America right now is the defensive coordinator, especially in the Big 12,” Patterson said in the middle of the 2016 season. “Basically you’re going to make about 70 calls in 20 seconds and you’re going to be evaluated every seven days, and by the next day, whether you did a very good job or not.”
That’s from one of the most respected defensive minds in the conference, who has had relative success since TCU joined the Big 12. [NewsOK]
Obviously, Knowles is aware of the challenges that await but it’s a great opportunity: improvement defensively is appreciated more here than just about anywhere.
Ranking Rudolph
New York Jets fans had plenty of positive thoughts about No. 2 as a franchise quarterback.
Some may look at Rudolph and see a college quarterback taking advantage of amazing talent around him, a high scoring offensive scheme or even just a pretty deep ball. Some may think that is all he has going for him. I wholeheartedly disagree. I see an athletic QB with prototypical size, that can do it all. He has the ability to manipulate defenses, has the accuracy to fit the ball into tight windows, has the cool head to maneuver a crowded pocket. Will he have a learning curve adjusting to the NFL, yes, but just about all the QB prospects will have to do that, or deal with other problems.
Right now, I have Rudolph as my #4 quarterback prospect. I go by the rule of if you think the guy is a franchise QB, you take him when you can. I believe Rudolph has franchise QB potential, and I would have no problem taking him at 6. [Gang Green Nation]
It’s unique to see a third party perspective. The Oklahoma State faithful have seen three-plus years of Rudolph, dissecting his capacity to make every throw (and fumble at inopportune times). But if you just watched Rudolph-to-Washington highlights? Take him top ten.
