Daily Bullets (Sept 30) – Is the Longball Back?, Pressures of a KU Game
Longball Resurgence?
With Tyron, Wallace, and Wolf all with catches of greater than 40 yards on Saturday, are we seeing progress on the deep ball?
“This offense has always been about throwing the ball down the field,” Cowboy offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said. “Run the ball, and then when (the defenders) come low, throw deep.
“That’s what we’re gonna do.”
But that hasn’t always been the case this season. The reasons for that are many. New quarterback. Evolving offensive line. Pass-deterring schemes by defenses. Poor execution by the Cowboys.
Based on film analysis of the first four games by The Oklahoman, the Cowboys had completed only 3 of 19 passes that traveled at least 30 yards down field.
But Saturday, they had more deep-ball completions than the rest of the season combined. [NewsOK]
In my opinion, it’s not about just completing the ball – it’s about giving the receiver a chance to go the distance after he makes the catch. And the pass to Tyron checked that box last night.

Low Pressure – Must Win
Yesterday’s win in Lawrence yesterday probably didn’t turn many/any heads but that didn’t make it less important. The Pokes have dominated the series in Stillwater over the last decade but trips to Lawrence had been tough.
But in Lawrence? Such blowouts have been few and far between.
The Cowboys are likely to end a tough week with a victory, but be on guard, my Pistol Pete loving friends. Better teams than this one over the past decade have played in the shadow of Mount Oread and struggled mightily. Leaving Lawrence with a win won’t be easy.
But leaving Lawrence without one would turn a mess into a maelstrom. [NewsOK]
How many times over the last few years have you or a loved one chuckled over Texas losing to Kansas? Nobody wants to be the team that lost to the terrible team.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Winners and losers from week five of college football….12 schools Kelly Bryant could transfer to (that aren’t OSU)….Eight takeaways after two days of Ryder Cup competition play….Neat gesture here by Gundy and Brailford….Cowgirls tied a match with top-ten Texas on Friday
Another week in the books.

I’m not running for TC fan club president but this is impressive.
From #OKState's postgame notes: Taylor Cornelius set an OSU record today with an average of 15.6 yards per attempt. The previous record of 15.5 was set by Mason Rudolph at Pittsburgh last year.
