Grading the Uniforms: Week 8 Vs. West Virginia

Oklahoma State wore White-White-White against West Virginia to offset the Mountaineers and their Blue-Blue-Blue uniform combination. It was the second time that we’ve seen this combo since the evolution of the uniforms in 2016. The Cowboys are now 1-1 in this combo in that time-frame, and they are 2-1 with the Icy Pete helmet dating back to 2015.

Let’s hand out grades for Saturday’s threads.

Helmet: A-

While it’s down on the list of ranking the helmets, Icy Pete may have become my favorite Pete helmet. The more I see this helmet the more I like it, especially when it’s worn with the all white combination. Even though OSU has technically only worn Icy Pete in an all white combination, we’ve seen it in the uniform promotions with a White-Orange-White combo. Icy Pete doesn’t do much for me in a W/O/W combo. In fact, there probably aren’t many uniform combinations that I would want to see with this helmet. Still, Icy Pete is a very slick standalone helmet and is worth of a high grade.

Combo: A+

You know when other teams wear all white and their fans blow up twitter with #Icy and snow emojis? It should be considered #FakeNews if they aren’t wearing chrome. Don’t get me wrong, I respect the all white looks of Texas and Penn State. Those are clean, but they aren’t icy.

To be icy, there needs to be a chrome element mixed in with the all white combo. No other team compares to Oklahoma State when they wear all white with the Icy Pete Helmet. OSU took it to another level with the new threads when they decided to add the reflective Cowboys down the side of the white pants.

The black numbers are also a huge upgrade with the new threads. The first time we saw the Icy Pete helmet with the all white combo was in 2015 at Texas Tech. The away jerseys had orange numbers. It was a very good look, but it became a great look with the black numbers.
