Oklahoma’s Top Prospect Tajh Overton Commits to Oklahoma State
Oklahoma’s top prospect will be a Cowboy.
The Cowboys are clearly closing strongly as it pertains to the 2026 recruiting class.
Days removed from landing four-star defensive lineman Danny Beale III, Oklahoma State has now added Owasso defensive lineman Tajh Overton — also a four-star recruit and the state’s top prospect.

It’s another example of OSU’s new staff refusing to be denied, as Overton released a top six in March of Oklahoma, Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, Ole Miss and LSU. But somewhere between then and now, the Pokes were able to secure his commitment.
Overton is the No. 174 player in all of the 2026 class, according to 247Sports, which lists him as the No. 27 defensive lineman in the class. This marks the first time the Cowboys have landed the top Okie in 247Sports’ rankings since the 2021 class when OSU got Kendal Daniels.
At 6-foot-3, 275 pounds Overton plays on the interior of Owasso’s defensive line, often wrecking plays before they even had a chance. The Rams went 12-1 this past season, brutally falling 43-42 to Bixby in the Oklahoma 6A-I state final.
Regardless of the staff surrounding him, Mike Gundy has always made a point to recruit within the state’s borders. Overton becomes the fifth Oklahoman to commit in the Cowboys’ 2026 class, joining KD Jones (Jenks), Trey McGlothlin (Bixby), Aiden Martin (Berryhill) and high school teammate Carter Langenderfer (Owasso).
New defensive line coach Ryan Osborn has been relentless in recruiting the portal and high school ranks since getting to Stillwater, with Overton joining Beale and edge rusher Landon Bland (Carthage, Missouri) as defensive linemen in the Pokes’ class.
Overton’s commitment puts OSU’s 13-man class up to No. 50 nationally in 247Sports’ rankings. The Cowboys leapfrogged Cincinnati and Kansas State up to No. 9 in the Big 12 — right behind Iowa State. OSU is the highest-ranked Big 12 team with 13 or fewer commitments. Nationally, only LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Iowa rank ahead of OSU as programs with 13 or fewer commits.
