Winning Culture: 7, Losing Culture: 1tw

Some insightful words after the Pokes win in Austin ring true a day after the Pokes won in Morgantown.

“The reason we won this game is our culture,” Gundy said. “What we do. For some reason, they’re learning how to win big games on the road in difficult places. And they should be proud of that.”

Gundy is right. Culture is everything. In business. In education. In homes. In sports. Good culture — an established way of doing things — creates belief. Belief in hard work and doing things right and treating people well, knowing that always turns out OK.

That’s what’s been going on in Stillwater the last decade. [NewsOK]

“Woe is me” versus “It’s a matter of when not if” are different things that are deeply shaping in football games.

Ground Delivery

After watching the game yesterday, you’d be hardpressed to convince anyone that the high flying passing attacks for both teams *whispers* wasn’t really that important. And here’s what was.

(Freshman JD) King had to shoulder the rushing workload after starter Justice Hill was injured in the first half. King had 36 carries — including a couple of key fourth down conversions — for 142 yards and a score.

The Cowboy defense held West Virginia to just 62 rushing yards on 30 carries and Mountaineer wide receiver David Sills had only three catches for 44 yards. [Yahoo]

Sure, the points from the three touchdowns Rudolph threw made the difference but the fact that OSU soft-core (with slippery hands) TCU’d West Virginia was a thing.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Mark Cooper pumps up JD Gurley-King and outlines the plethora of special teams mistakes….Tom Luginbill on Dana Holgorsen’s packaged plays is great….Iowa State is now a Big 12 contender (!)….Three plays that swung yesterday’s outcome and significant numbers from the win

The guy’s created a monster.

Celebration penalty that ultimately cost Tulsa the game on Friday night. So silly, should only be used for more egregious instances.

Spot on.

A conference champion is always a good thing.
